Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Core Spats and the UFC BJJ Spats?

Both the Core and UFC BJJ Spats use the same compression construction, flatlock seams, and quick-dry fabric — the difference is the colourway and branding. Core Spats are available in Black, Blue, Green, and Red in the standard Hayabusa aesthetic. UFC BJJ Spats are available in Black/Blue and Black/Red as part of the co-branded UFC BJJ collaboration line. Training performance is equivalent.

Do I need spats if I already have compression shorts?

Compression shorts and spats serve different purposes. Compression shorts cover to the mid or upper thigh; spats provide full-leg coverage down to the ankle. If you regularly experience mat burns or friction abrasions on the lower thigh, knee, or calf — common in guard play and wrestling — full-length spats eliminate those contact points entirely. Many BJJ practitioners use spats specifically for their mat protection during long grinding rolls.

Can I wear spats alone for no-gi BJJ training?

Yes — spats can be worn alone or under MMA shorts or fight shorts for no-gi training. Wearing them alone (without shorts over them) is common in gi-friendly and open gym environments. For competition, check the specific event rules — most no-gi grappling competitions permit spats with a matching rash guard top.

How do I care for these spats?

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, inside out to protect any print. Air dry or tumble dry on low heat — high heat degrades compression fabric and waistband elasticity. Wash after every training session to maintain moisture-wicking performance and prevent odour from training residue.
