Understanding TKD Uniform Options
Taekwondo uniforms (dobok) come in several styles for different purposes — student/school uniforms, competition uniforms, and instructor uniforms. Choosing the right one for your training level and goals makes a significant difference in comfort and performance.
Traditional vs V-Neck Cut
V-neck doboks are the standard in WT (World Taekwondo) and most modern schools. They allow more freedom of movement for high kicking and are the required style for most competitions. The Rhingo Ribbed Taekwondo Uniform uses a standard V-neck cut suitable for all levels.
Fabric Weight
Light (7oz) and medium-weight doboks are the standard. The 7oz Rhingo Poom Ribbed Dobok is an ideal balance for training and competition. For summer training, the Rhingo Short Sleeve Taekwondo Uniform offers a lighter option specifically designed for warm weather.
Poom vs Standard
In WT taekwondo, Poom rank is the junior black belt designation for students under 15. The Rhingo Poom Ribbed Taekwondo Uniform with blue/red trim is the standard choice for Poom-rank students.
Competition Uniforms
Competition doboks are typically white with minimal decoration. Check your tournament's specific rules before purchasing — some events have specific brand or logo restrictions.
Sizing
Most use numbered sizes (000 for tiny tots through 7 for large adults) correlated to height and weight. Doboks often shrink slightly in the wash — hang dry to maintain size.
