What Size Boxing Gloves Do I Need? A Complete Size Guide

Boxing Glove Sizes Explained

Boxing gloves are measured in ounces (oz) — heavier gloves have more padding. The right size depends on what you're training for, your body weight, and whether you'll be sparring or just hitting bags.

4 oz – Competition & MMA

Primarily used in professional boxing and MMA. Not for bag work or sparring.

6–8 oz – Youth & Kids

Sized for children aged 6–12. Hayabusa T3 Kids and E1 Kids are the top picks for young fighters.

10 oz – Lighter Adults & Bag Work

Popular bag-work weight for lighter fighters (under 130 lbs). Hayabusa's T3 and S4 are available at 10 oz.

12 oz – Most Common Training Weight

The most common all-round training weight for adults. Ideal for fighters weighing 130–160 lbs.

14 oz – Recommended Sparring Weight

14 oz is the minimum most coaches recommend for sparring. Great for fighters weighing 130–180 lbs.

16 oz – Standard Sparring Glove

The standard sparring glove weight for most adult fighters. Most coaches require 16 oz or heavier for beginner sparring.

18 oz – Big Fighters & Extra Protection

For heavier fighters (over 200 lbs). The Hayabusa T3 is available up to 18 oz.
