How to Set Up a Home Boxing Gym: Everything You Need to Train at Home

What You Need to Set Up a Home Boxing Gym

You don't need a large space or a large budget to train boxing at home. With the right equipment, a spare bedroom, garage, or basement is enough to get serious training done.

The Heavy Bag: Your Most Important Purchase

A heavy bag is the foundation of home boxing training. For most home gyms, choose between a hanging bag (most realistic feel, requires ceiling mount) or a freestanding bag (no installation, good for apartments and rentals). The Hayabusa 70lb Heavy Bag is a solid entry point for hanging bags. The Hayabusa Quick Swap Freestanding System is the top choice for freestanding setups.

Boxing Gloves

For bag work at home: 12–14 oz. The Hayabusa T3 or E1 (budget) are both excellent choices. The RDX F6 Kara is the best value mid-range option.

Hand Wraps

Always wear hand wraps under your gloves. The Hayabusa Deluxe Hand Wraps (180") are the standard choice.

Jump Rope

Essential for warm-up, conditioning, and footwork. A basic speed rope is fine to start.

Training Mats

Foam interlocking mats (4–6 tiles) provide cushioning for footwork and protect your floor.

Optional Additions

Double-end bag for timing and reflexes. Speed bag for hand speed and coordination. Mirror for technique feedback.
