Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Shell Shock GEL™ padding and why is it used in shin guards?
Shell Shock GEL™ is RDX's shock-absorbing gel layer that distributes impact force across a wider area before it reaches the bone. The shin is a thin bone with little natural padding — a direct kick without a gel layer concentrates the force at the point of contact. The gel redistributes that force laterally across the guard surface, significantly reducing the peak load on the shin. Combined with Supremo-Shock Foam™, this creates a two-stage shock management system: the gel spreads the initial impact and the foam absorbs the remainder.
- Are these shin guards suitable for Muay Thai and kickboxing?
Yes — the T1 shin instep guards are designed for full-contact disciplines including Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA. The full-length design covers the shin and instep, protecting against shin-on-shin contact and low kicks. For pure boxing training without leg strikes, a shorter shin sleeve may suffice, but for any striking sport involving leg attacks, full shin instep coverage is recommended.
- What size should I order?
Measure the length of your shin from the top of the kneecap to the top of the ankle bone. S fits approximately 10–12 inches (25–30cm); M fits 12–14 inches (30–35cm); L fits 14–16 inches (35–40cm); XL fits 16 inches and above (40cm+). The guard should cover your full shin without overhang at the knee or ankle. If between sizes, go up for better coverage and a less restrictive fit during kicking drills.
- How do I clean and maintain the shin guards?
Wipe the exterior with a lightly damp cloth after each session and allow the guards to air-dry fully in a ventilated space before storing. The QD-1™ lining manages moisture during training, but sweat left in the interior can cause odour over time — airing out promptly prevents this. Do not submerge in water or machine wash, as this degrades the foam padding and the adhesive bond between the layers.
