Frequently Asked Questions

What is horsehair padding in boxing gloves?
Horsehair padding is the traditional knuckle padding used in professional boxing competition gloves. It is firmer and less shock-absorbing than modern foam, which makes it preferred for competition because it transfers punching power more directly. It is also the reason professional fights cause more visible damage than training sparring — the padding is intentionally less protective to allow decisive results in sanctioned bouts. These gloves are for professional competition and approved amateur fights, not daily training sparring.
Can I use horsehair boxing gloves for training?
They can be used for technical bag work and pad work, but are not recommended for sparring training. The firmer horsehair padding provides less protection for your training partners than standard foam training gloves. For training, use 12–16 oz foam-padded training gloves (Hayabusa T3, T3D, S4, or similar). Reserve the horsehair gloves for the actual competitive event they are approved for.
What sizes are available and what is the difference?
Available in 8 oz and 10 oz. 8 oz gloves are standard for lighter weight classes (up to super featherweight in most commissions); 10 oz is standard for heavier weight classes from lightweight upward. Always verify the specific weight class requirements with the sanctioning body for your competition before purchasing.
